On December 10, 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly. Since 1950, December 10th has been International Human Rights Day, which serves as an annual occasion to take a critical look at the human rights situation worldwide and to point out current hot spots.
