Huawei Li Peng: Maximum value through 5.5G experiences

Shanghai (ots/PRNewswire) At MWC Shanghai 2024, Li Peng, Executive Vice President and President of ICT Sales & Service of Huawei, delivered a keynote on how operators can maximize the value of 5.5G more effectively.

Years of concerted effort across the industry have prepared networks, services and the business environment for large-scale commercial deployment of 5.5G. Li believes business model innovation and capability integration are key to maximizing return on investment in 5.5G so operators can hit the ground running – with a focus on a differentiated user experience.

“The era of mobile AI has arrived,” said Li. “To stimulate new forms of untapped demand, carriers can integrate their network, cloud and AI capabilities to deliver a differentiated range of connected experiences. Carriers should do this well Seize the opportunity to explore innovative business models and drive a shift from single-factor to multi-factor monetization – from monetizing traffic to monetizing the experience itself. This is key to creating greater value for all types of users and leading industry development in the era of mobile AI.”

Li emphasized that high-quality supply is key to stimulating new demand. He compared the wireless industry to the airline industry in the 1970s, when airlines began offering differentiated cabin services to passengers by dividing cabin seats into first class, business class and economy class, and then introducing other personalized service offerings such as airport lounges and third-party privileges. This opened a new chapter in the monetization of experiences in the aviation industry.

To date, the mobile industry has achieved incredible growth through continuous technological innovation and business models. And now, says Li, the time has come to work on a more innovative offering. As mobile technology advances to 5.5G, the industry should integrate its network, cloud and AI capabilities to unlock new and latent demand among users. This will help drive industry modernization and deliver more robust, faster growth.

Deterministic networking experience for a variety of needs

Different people have different requirements for online experience. Business travelers tend to prefer faster downlink speeds, while live streamers and gamers are more concerned about uplink and network latency. 5.5G networks improve bandwidth by a factor of 10, enabling carriers to ensure a solid connection experience anytime, anywhere, with wireless QCI-based scheduling, Guaranteed Bit Rate (GBR), and intelligent user and service rating and policy generation through the Network Data Analytics Function (NWDAF) of the core network. Operators can design a wide range of targeted packages for different groups of people and offer personalized services that increase sales and improve the loyalty of demanding customers.

Cloud Phones: Integrating Connectivity, Computing and Ecosystems for a New Model of Innovative Care

According to Li, thanks to the high bandwidth and low latency provided by 5G networks and the on-demand provision of cloud resource pools, cloud phones can better meet the needs of different types of users for real-time computing power, data isolation and online collaboration.

He cited China Mobile Zhejiang as an example. The operator has released a cloud phone package that integrates computing, network and cloud functions. Subscribers to this service can access on-demand streaming and other member privileges on their virtual cloud devices in one stop. The operator has also achieved multi-factor monetization by offering 1TB data plans with three different computing power packages. By sharing third-party privileges, the operator has also benefited from sponsored data plans.

5.5G enables a wider range of B2B products and offerings

5.5G offers improved capabilities in uplink and downlink speeds, latency, positioning and deterministic networking. Li added that these can be used to further upgrade the more than 30,000 industry-specific private networks already established, extending network capabilities from auxiliary systems to core production systems and creating greater industrial value.

In addition to basic 5G network services, operators can also offer SLA-guaranteed services and value-added services such as reliable network design, intelligent edge services and high-precision positioning. Li noted that 5.5G is perfect for train operations. With high-precision 5.5G positioning in tunnels and applications such as 5G-powered automatic video inspection and AI-powered vehicle inspection, all railway lines can put intelligent O&M into practice.

MWC Shanghai 2024 will take place from June 26th to 28th in Shanghai, China. During the event, Huawei will showcase its latest products and solutions at booths E10 and E50 in Hall N1 of the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC).

2024 will see the commercial launch of 5.5G, while F5.5G, characterized by gigabit optical networks, is already underway. The synergy between networks, cloud and intelligence ensures a diverse user experience and makes intelligent applications ubiquitous. Together with global operators, industry experts and thought leaders, we address topics such as driving 5G success in the 5.5G era, unlocking the potential to increase operator revenues and accelerating the transition to a smart world.
