On December 12, Huawei and the University of Hong Kong (HKU) jointly held an opening ceremony for “The University of Hong Kong & Huawei Global Smart Campus Network Showcase.” This is a new milestone in their collaboration in developing smart campus network connectivity and infrastructure . Both parties are committed to creating a global flagship project for innovation in intelligent campus networks, which will not only accelerate HKU’s digital and intelligent transformation, but also serve as an excellent reference and inspiration for other universities worldwide.

Several key leaders from both parties attended the ceremony, including Flora Ng, Chief Information Officer and University Librarian at HKU; Wilson Kwok, Associate Director (CIO & Librarian Office) at HKU; Jason He, President of Global Enterprise Data Communication Marketing & Solution Sales at Huawei; Jim Bi, President of ICT Marketing & Solution Sales at Huawei Hong Kong; Yury Yin, Vice President of Data Communications Product Line at Huawei; Jackie Yu, Director of Branding & Marketing Execution, Huawei Enterprise Business.

“As a world-class university, HKU strives to create the best teaching and research conditions for international academic talent and promote the integration of education and technology,” said Flora Ng in her welcoming speech. “This year we celebrate our 112th anniversary of HKU Libraries, which have evolved over a century into an important platform for global academic research With the increasing diversity of teaching needs and accelerating digital transformation, building a smart campus is crucial to providing high-quality educational services.”

She continued: “Together with Huawei, we have built a high-quality 10Gbps campus network with Wi-Fi 7 and deployed it in various scenarios such as libraries, the main building (Loke Yew Hall), classrooms and HKU Station. These implementations ensure stable, seamless network connections for teaching applications in smart classrooms, libraries, study rooms and lecture halls, laying a solid foundation for HKU’s smart campus.”

Ng added: “Going forward, both parties will continue to work closely on smart grids and address scenarios such as grid security, intelligent operations and maintenance (O&M), and smart campus Internet of Things (IoT). This will create a safer, more efficient and smarter educational environment for the future, thereby driving the digital transformation of the education industry.”

“Education is currently rapidly integrating with digital technology. “Huawei fully leverages its unrivaled expertise and strengths in ICT to help HKU innovate in scientific research, teaching and management processes,” said Jason He, President of Global Enterprise Data Communication Marketing & Solution Sales at Huawei, in his speech. “Huawei’s high-quality 10Gbps campus network solution, powered by Wi-Fi 7, provides HKU with three types of experience upgrades: Upgrading the Wireless experience, upgrading the application experience and upgrading the O&M experience. This solution meets the specific needs of various campus scenarios while ensuring data security, ultimately leading to a new network experience.”

Technological innovations meet a wide range of network needs and take the on-campus network experience to a new level.

With the advent of the digital age, online exams, live courses, lectures and celebrations place higher performance demands on modern campus networks. Especially in smart classroom scenarios, it is crucial to ensure that the teaching experience in the classroom is always optimal.

Huawei’s high-quality 10Gbps campus network solution can meet these needs. Using state-of-the-art Wi-Fi 7 technology, this solution significantly increases the network bandwidth required for interactive 4K/8K HD teaching in smart classrooms. In addition, the solution offers application assurance (to automatically identify and prioritize important teaching applications), transparency of application quality and other compelling features that enable optimal use of teaching applications.

Huawei’s latest Wi-Fi 7 APs, deployed at Loke Yew Hall (a historic landmark and major activity center), libraries and study halls, ensure smooth network connectivity during central online exams and peak celebration times.

This collaboration is an important milestone on the path to smarter education and smarter campus connectivity of the future. Jason He commented: “Huawei will continue its partnership with HKU in the future to create a high-quality educational environment and consolidate HKU’s leading position in global higher education. This collaboration can also be an excellent example for other universities in Hong Kong to embark on the path of digital education.”
