Huawei and the Moroccan government are promoting the transformation of national education through the DigiSchool project

Huawei has announced the successful completion of the “DigiSchool 2024” project in Morocco, underscoring its contribution to ensuring equal access to digital technology for all students in the Kingdom.

Launched in February 2024, the DigiSchool project aims to help prepare new generations for the demands of an increasingly connected world and is part of the Moroccan government’s education reform plan for the period 2022 to 2026. Its completion marks the successful first phase of a public private partnership between the Moroccan Ministry of Education, Preschool and Sports and Huawei Morocco as part of Huawei’s global initiative TECH4ALL for digital integration.

“The DigiSchool project highlights the importance of strengthening digital skills and consolidating the public-private partnership as a real engine to promote a resilient digital ecosystem,” said David Li, Managing Director of Huawei Morocco. “With this strategic partnership, Huawei is committed to: “continue to invest in training and innovation and support Morocco’s aspirations for high-quality and inclusive digital education.”

The focus of the project is on developing digital skills and providing training to students and teachers in technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, web and app development. Over the course of the year, participants were also able to gain practical experience in the areas of robotics and programming and solve technical puzzles and improve their digital skills through interactive games designed to encourage creativity and initiative.

DigiSchool 2024 was divided into four phases. In the first phase, 265 secondary school teachers in all twelve regions of Morocco were trained in ICT skills. Phase two focused on ongoing support for trained teachers who applied what they had learned in the classroom with 2,650 students. In the third phase, twelve regional hackathons were organized in the twelve regions of Morocco between May and November, in which 714 students were supposed to develop ICT solutions to overcome specific challenges.

The fourth and final phase in December consisted of technology boot camps in Fez, Marrakech and Agadir. They were organized in collaboration with the respective regional educational academies and brought together 180 students and 60 teachers from twelve regions of Morocco. The boot camps served to deepen the ICT knowledge acquired in class and at the hackathons.

Teams received one-on-one support to refine their hackathon projects and present their solutions to a panel of judges, with prizes awarded to outstanding entries.

DigiSchool 2024 ended with an evaluation tour of the boot camp in Agadir from December 17th to 19th. The high-level delegation included Mohamed Saad Berrada, Minister of Education, Preschool and Sports, Ouafae Chakir, Director of the Regional Academy of Education and Training for the Souss-Massa Region, Aida Bougrine, Provincial Director of Agadir Ida-Outanane Province, and Chen Xiaolei, Vice President of Huawei Morocco.

During the tour, the students were able to demonstrate their new skills by presenting the solutions they had developed to the delegation.

The success of the DigiSchool 2024 program supports the Moroccan government’s ongoing commitment to the digitalization of national education, inclusion and equal opportunities, as well as Morocco’s position as a regional example of using technology as a vector for equal opportunities and progress – a goal also shared by Huawei is obliged.

In addition to a number of Educational initiativeswhich run globally as part of Huawei’s TECH4ALL program with partners such as UNESCO, Close the Gap and government ministries, Huawei also runs DigiSchool projects in Kenya, Senegal, South Africa, Chile and China to connect remote schools to the Internet and Improve the digital skills of students and teachers.
