Huawei and IUCN host Tech4Nature summits to promote innovation in conservation

Shenzhen, China (ots/PRNewswire) Huawei and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) co-hosted the Tech4Nature Summit 2024 yesterday to mark the start of Phase 2 of the Tech4Nature global partnership and further promote innovation in conservation.

In accordance with the TECH4ALL-Initiative von Huawei and the IUCN Green List Tech4Nature sets an example for the shared vision of both partners to develop technological solutions for protected areas and reserves (PCAs) around the world. It is also the first time that Huawei or the IUCN has entered into a major partnership spanning both the information and communications technology (ICT) and conservation sectors.

“Nature is facing unprecedented challenges, and technology and digital solutions can make a huge contribution to protecting our planet’s biodiversity. That’s why IUCN has launched the Tech4Nature partnership with Huawei,” said Dr. Grethel Aguilar, Director General of IUCN. “I am proud that this partnership is entering the next phase and helping everyone involved work together for the Using nature and creating a better future.”

This phase will also expand collaboration between the technology and conservation sectors by involving more people, partners and countries.

The summit was attended by conservation experts, scientists, representatives from the private sector and government, as well as the broader Tech4Nature community.

The workshops aimed to build capacity among partners, explore action plans for fair and effective protection through the IUCN Green List, discuss ethical considerations and provide guidance for implementation, as well as peer-to-peer learning and sharing.

The partners also have the authoritative Tech4Nature publication Partnership for our Planet published. The publication can be found on the website Tech4Nature can be downloaded and underlines the crucial role that state-of-the-art technological solutions play in overcoming the challenges of modern nature conservation.
