How the cattle economy becomes more environmentally friendly
St. Pölten (ots) –

Cows that give more milk and live longer – this has been paid to this in the past few decades when breeding cattle in Austria. With success: This means that fewer cattle are used and so the greenhouse gas emissions of milk production could be reduced around a third. Now the cattle breeding Austria, the advocacy representative of the approximately 21,000 cattle breeding companies, goes one step further: With the “Breed4Green” project, for example, the breeding of the methane emissions of the cattle can also be examined. The companies can also help to improve sustainability in the cattle economy. The Kloibhofer family in the Kloibhofer family in Pabneukirchen in Upper Austria is already using the new digital tool “Neu.Rind”. This should help to estimate how sustainability is at your own farm and where there is still room for improvement. And finally, the dairies are also required, for example through environmentally friendly packaging and short transport routes, as a visit to Berglandmilch in Aschbach in Lower Austria shows.
