Vienna, April 17, 2025 – the houses for life and the pensioners’ clubs of the city of Vienna are places of encounter that promote joie de vivre and counteract loneliness. With diverse community offers, they strengthen social cohesion. “In Vienna we stand for good and respectful cooperation. The houses to life and the pensioners are there for thousands of people every day. Due to the close networking with the police, we create an environment in which everyone can feel safe”
emphasizes Peter Hacker, managing city council for social affairs, health and sports and president of the houses to life.
Security only succeeds together
“Our goal is to promote the dialogue between citizens, municipalities, associations and security authorities. This ensures a close, transparent implementation of security measures and recognized potential risks at an early stage. By investigating and prevention, we can reduce many dangers together”
explains State Police President Dr. Gerhard Pürstl and refers to the initiative “Together. Safe with our police” of the police.
Mutual exchange of knowledge for more security
The Viennese police are supported by the approximately 5,500 full-time and volunteers of the houses. “Our colleagues ensure that residents, club visitors, relatives and neighbors feel welcome and in good hands. Thanks to the cooperation with the Viennese police, we can use their skills even more specifically and further expand”
emphasizes Christian Hennefeind, managing director of the houses to life. The knowledge transfer is strengthened in both directions: in the houses to life and the Vienna -wide pensioner clubs, lectures on topics such as trick fraud, burglar protection and safe behavior in public space take place regularly. In order to further deepen their knowledge of dealing with older people, Grätzl police officers can take part in the practice -oriented training “Instant Aging” free of charge.
Focus on prevention work and information
Another central part of the cooperation is the continuous improvement of the security measures. This includes regular evaluation and adaptation of the security concepts developed by the houses to life. In addition to regular exchange with the Grätzlolicemen, targeted information or advice for residents, their relatives and people from Grätzl and employees can also be organized if necessary.
Signing strengthens partnership cooperation
As part of a joint appointment in the Haus Maria Jacobi, City Councilor Peter Hacker, State Police President Dr. Gerhard Pürstl and Houses for the Life Managing Director Mag. Christian Hennefeind signed the cooperation agreement. Peter Hacker: “Cooperation with the Viennese police strengthens people’s security and is intended to further promote trust in the authorities and the feeling of security. My thanks go to everyone who has contributed to this important project.”
