HOSI Vienna calls for solidarity
While the broad majority has long been LGBTIQ-friendly, there is at the same time a misanthropic dregs of society that are becoming increasingly agitated and increasingly aggressive.

Vienna (OTS) – On the sidelines of yesterday’s demo for IDAHOBIT, the International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia, there were verbal attacks: some passers-by made derogatory comments, some were insulted and even a Hitler salute, which was still on site was displayed. Ann-Sophie Otte, the chairwoman of HOSI Vienna, says: “We have repeatedly pointed out in recent years that there is a radicalization of anti-LGBTIQ hostility. Attacks like those of yesterday are occurring more and more often in public. While the broad majority has long been LGBTIQ-friendly, there is at the same time a misanthropic dregs of society that are becoming increasingly agitated and increasingly aggressive.

This debate needs to be fought now: “The LGBTIQ community will not back down a millimeter. We consistently report crimes, and we certainly won’t be intimidated by a few bad actors. The LGBTIQ community has already experienced and overcome much worse On the contrary, with the upcoming Vienna Pride 2024 we will ensure even more colorfulness throughout the city. We ask all our friends and supporters in the majority of society: Come and stand by our side together! Diversity and respect, against hatred and right-wing extremist agitation!”
