Global technology brand HONOR successfully hosted the second HONOR ESG Sustainable Development Forum today at the Jianfu Palace Garden of the Palace Museum. Supported by reputable organizations such as the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Investment and Technology Promotion Offices (ITPO), the Central Academy of Fine Arts Fine Arts (CAFA) and the China Association of Circular Economy (CACE), the forum brought together diplomats, international organizations, industry associations, universities and companies for insightful discussions on sustainability.

During the event, HONOR officially launched its 2023 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report, highlighting its progress in youth empowerment, tech for good and green transformation. Meanwhile, the HONOR Talents Global Design Awards exhibition has made its way to the Palace Museum, showcasing HONOR’s unwavering commitment to empowering youth and preserving cultural heritage.

Driving sustainable development with technological innovations

As a leading global technology brand, HONOR sets ESG as a long-term strategic focus that encompasses seven key areas: environmental protection, tech for good, data protection, youth empowerment, supplier CSR, workforce development and responsible corporate governance.

Enabling young talent to develop their potential

The HONOR Talents Global Design Awards has become a platform for young talents around the world to showcase their full potential. Over the past four years, 25,000 entries have been submitted from over 40 markets and 240 universities. In 2023, Yuan Shi’s interactive art installation “What’s Going on in the Stone” by CAFA was awarded first place. The installation invites the viewer to cross-generational interactions with figures from the Han Dynasty and vividly shows the fascinating collision of technology and culture.

Meanwhile, the HONOR Talents Global Design Awards exhibition was held at Yanchun Pavilion in Jianfu Palace Garden. After previous exhibitions at the United Nations headquarters in New York, at the Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico and in the World Heritage Site’s Speicherstadt in Humburg, HONOR has once again set a global cultural milestone with its project to empower youth.

HONOR’s commitment to Tech for Good

As part of its “Tech for Good” strategy, HONOR continues to dedicate itself to developing technologies and products that put people at the heart. To meet the digital needs of older people with visual and hearing impairments, HONOR offers AI solutions on the device, such as screen reading and AI captions, and bridges the digital divide with offline and personalized accessibility features. By the end of 2023, HONOR has developed and implemented 26 senior-friendly projects, of which over 4.66 million are users of visual aid features and over 940,000 Users of hearing aid functions benefit.

During the event, HONOR demonstrated its proprietary real-time AI captioning feature, which makes audio visible to people with disabilities. “HONOR maintains an open and collaborative approach in our upcoming Tech for Good initiatives. Through open collaborations, we fully unlock the potential of AI in ESG and other areas by leveraging the synergy between device-based and cloud-based AI,” said George Zhao, Managing Director of HONOR Device Co. Clean energy use reached 8% in the first year

HONOR actively incorporates climate change into its corporate management. With the goal of achieving carbon neutral operations by 2045, HONOR has made significant efforts to reduce its carbon emissions across all areas of products, manufacturing and operations, demonstrating its strong commitment to environmental sustainability. Since 2023, HONOR has relied on the use of clean energy, which accounted for 8% of energy consumption in the first year.

HONOR has achieved notable milestones in its commitment to environmentally friendly products and manufacturing. Due to advances in research and design, material selection, durability and efficiency, 128 HONOR smartphones and tablets have received CQC environmental certification, resulting in a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of approximately 876 tonnes. Meanwhile, packaging innovations launching in 2023 have delivered a carbon reduction of over 650 tonnes.

Recognized as a national-level green factory, HONOR Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park has a self-built photovoltaic power plant designed to generate 700,000 kWh of clean electricity annually.

HONOR has implemented paperless operations in its internal offices and offline stores, reducing printed paper consumption to the point where 108 Masson pine trees will no longer need to be felled in 2023.

In 2023, HONOR’s ESG projects received recognition from several key industry institutions, including Fortune China Best Designs and Bloomberg Green ESG 50.
