EU eastward expansion: New workers essential
The largest EU expansion in history took place 20 years ago. Austria’s neighboring countries, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Hungary also joined the union. Austria has benefited greatly from eastward expansion over the years. This is particularly evident in the labor market. The forgotten migrant workers
When you talk about so-called guest workers today, most people probably have the image of men from Turkey or the former Yugoslavia in mind. But many women also came to Austria. They made the economic boom in Austria possible under particularly difficult conditions. The EU as a motor for minority rights
Around 50 million people in the European Union are members of autochthonous ethnic groups. The European integration process was important for the protection of minorities in Europe. When minorities see their rights violated in their nation states, they sometimes turn to the European Union. Representatives of the Slovenian minority in Carinthia/Koroška did this shortly before the EU elections. Sabina Zwitter reports.
