“Home Foreign Home”: Fasting month in the confectionery

On March 24th at 1:35 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) Marin Berlakovich presents the ORF magazine “Heimat Fremde Heimat” on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at 1:35 p.m. on ORF 2 with the following contributions:

Fasting month in the confectionery

Around 700,000 Muslims live in Austria. Many of them are currently observing the fasting month of Ramadan, the holiest time of the year in Islam. In addition to abstaining from eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset, Ramadan is primarily about community and a more conscious life. For his report, Samuel Mago also accompanied the Viennese Muslim and patisserie owner Hamza Imara for a day in Ramadan and saw what it’s like to fast when you work in a confectionery.

Bread – the taste of home

Bread not only feeds the world, it is one of humanity’s oldest foods and is made from just a few ingredients. Anyone who has followed debates about which bread is the best knows that great emotions can be associated with bread. Although black bread has a tradition in Austria, new types of bread have also come into the country in recent decades with various migration movements. The selection ranges from Turkish flatbread to French baguette and Syrian pita bread. Ajda Sticker looked around and tasted everything.
