On December 17th at 1:30 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) Marin Berlakovich presents “Heimat Fremde Heimat” on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. on ORF 2 with the following topics

Confusion of terms: Dictionary of Diversity aims to provide clarity

“Othering”, “woke”, “people of color”, “ableism”, “gender” – these are terms that we increasingly come across in everyday life, but whose meaning is unclear to many people. A new Duden dictionary has set itself the task of providing more clarity in this jungle of words. In “Diversity – the other dictionary” 100 well-known experts explain 100 common terms related to diversity. Why is non-discriminatory language important? And: How can the new vocabulary be used so that no one feels excluded by language barriers? Adriana Juric asked journalists and language researchers and on the streets of Vienna.

Roma in Austria: One ethnic group, many religions

Roma and Romnja have been living in Austria for 600 years. With around 14 million people, they form the largest minority in Europe. But within their community, the denominations couldn’t be more different. Nevertheless, the cohesion between Christian, Muslim, Jewish or Hindu Roma, Romnja, Sinti and Sintizze seems to be strong. What connects them beyond the boundaries of their faith? Samuel Mago visited members of the minority and asked them the crucial question.

Christmas Nukkah, witches and the Christ child

As diverse as the Austrian population is, the Christmas traditions celebrated in this country are just as diverse. The Jewish artist Timna Brauer has traced a wide variety of Christmas traditions around the world. She tells stories of Christmas Nukkah, witches and the Christ child. And students from the NMS St. Peter in Klagenfurt told Sabina Zwitter how they celebrate Christmas at home.
