SPÖ women’s leader Eva-Maria Holzleitner is deeply saddened by the murder of a woman in Vienna Favoriten. “My condolences go out to the family, their relatives and all their friends,” said Holzleitner. “It is important to mobilize all forces to expand the protection of women. That is why a National Action Plan on Violence Protection, which ensures the financial and human resources for the implementation of the Istanbul Convention, is so important.” ****
What is necessary is close cooperation between the individual ministries, federal states and all organizations that are active in protecting against violence. In order to expand the protection of women, a number of measures are necessary: more money for police, judiciary and counseling staff, secure financing for preventative work for boys and men, more resources for girls’ and women’s counseling centers, ankle bracelets for violent perpetrators, violence protection clinics throughout Austria .
“Not a day goes by without violence being committed against a woman in this country. That must have an end. Protection against violence must be continually improved and expanded. This is the only way we can increase safety,” says Holzleitner. (End) eb/pok
