“Hohes Haus” about waiting for the Babler effect

On February 25th at 12 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) Rebekka Salzer presents the ORF parliamentary magazine “Hohes Haus” on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at 12 p.m. on ORF 2 with the following topics:

Waiting for the Babler effect

The past year was not a brilliant one for the SPÖ. Despite the weakening government parties, the SPÖ, in contrast to the FPÖ, was not able to really use its opposition role to catch up in the election polls. Pamela Rendi-Wagner was replaced as chairwoman by Andreas Babler after a counting debacle at the party conference. But the much-vaunted and hoped-for “Babler effect” is still a long time coming and the party is still firing cross shots at the leadership. Why is that? Marcus Blecha analyzes the situation with an expert.

Eva Maria Holzleitner, deputy party leader of the SPÖ, is in the studio.

Waiting for the security strategy

The threats surrounding Austria have increased dramatically over the past decade. In order to capture all these dangers, the federal government decided to send a draft of a new security strategy to the National Council by the end of last year. But until now we have been waiting in vain. How urgent this is is shown by the fact that Russia still appears as a strategic partner in the previous security strategy from 2013. Where is the strategy now – and what does it have to contain? Claus Bruckmann asked around.

Sensational Switzerland

The Swiss will vote on March 3rd on whether pensioners should receive 13 instead of 12 pension payments per year. So far, the majority of the population has always rejected initiatives that would have placed a financial burden on the state budget or their employers. Unimaginable in Austria: six weeks of paid vacation, a 36-hour week, pension increases… – a majority of the population has so far rejected all of this at the ballot box. But this time it could be different for the first time. A small sensation could be on the horizon, reports Switzerland correspondent Marion Flatz-Mäser.
