“High House” about spies, sloppiness and job haggling

On April 21st at 12 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) Rebekka Salzer presents the ORF parliamentary magazine “Hohes Haus” on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 12 p.m. on ORF 2 with the following topics:

Spies, sloppiness and job haggling

For weeks, Austrian domestic politics has been dominated by one topic: the Egisto Ott affair. The alleged espionage activity by employees of the former Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Combating Terrorism (BVT) for Russia caused a controversial and very emotional debate in the National Council on Wednesday. The ÖVP launched a frontal attack on the FPÖ and described it as a “Russia Trojan in Austria”. For the Freedom Party, however, the responsibility lies with the ÖVP, since under their leadership the BVT was characterized by “sloppiness, job haggling and information leaks”.
Susanne Däubel reports.

Guest in the studio is FPÖ General Secretary Christian Hafenecker.

Polarizing deceleration

Few topics in Austria are considered as polarizing and are as emotionally driven as speed limits in road traffic. Many pedestrians and cyclists want traffic-calmed zones for more safety – but drivers are reluctant to be restricted. This week, the Turquoise-Green government, together with NEOS, passed the 35th amendment to the road traffic regulations. This is intended to make it easier for municipalities to impose a speed limit of 30 km/h in certain areas. Marcus Blecha took a closer look.
