Vienna (OTS) – Stefan Ribitsch will present a “Heimat Fremde Heimat” edition on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. on ORF 2 on the topic “Korean Community in Austria in the Shadow of the Korean Wave”:
The “Korean wave” has conquered the world with its pop culture and so-called K-pop, Korean cuisine, series and films are breaking all audience records. South Korea managed to transform itself from a military dictatorship into the world’s most important cultural influencer in a very short time.
A research trip through the Austrian Korean community shows that the Korean Austrians enrich Austria in the art scene and top-class gastronomy as well as in classical music and are also quite critical of the idealization of everything Korean. The traumatization of Koreans, the consequences of the pressure to succeed as well as the love of diversity and every innovation paint a differentiated picture of the community.
