“Heimat Fremde Heimat”: “Headscarf Mafia” in Stinatz, “Weitblicke” with Milo Rau and fashion as a message of peace

On June 9th at 1:35 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) Marin Berlakovich presents the ORF magazine “Heimat Fremde Heimat” on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at 1:35 p.m. on ORF 2 with the following contributions:

Headscarf mafia in Stinatz

Stinatz/Stinjaki is the crime scene of the crime novel “The Headscarf Mafia” by Thomas Stipsits, which is also being made into a film this year. In his books, the author paints a picture of powerful, older women who are in charge in the Burgenland-Croatian village of Stinatz. His grandmother served as his inspiration. But how much is there really to the myth? Sabina Zwitter reports.

“Foresight” with Milo Rau

When the city of Vienna appointed the Swiss theater maker Milo Rau as director of the Vienna Festival, all signs were focused on political art and promoting diversity. As part of the festival, Milo Rau has created a new space for migrant communities, refugees, ethnic groups, the LGBTIQ+ movement and people with disabilities where they can make their concerns visible. A report by Sabina Zwitter.

Fashion as a message of peace

Kareem Aladhami recently presented his tenth and latest collection “BRAVE” in Vienna, which is intended to take a critical look at the techno scene. In his designs he processes his life, war and peace and always puts sustainability and upcycling at the focus of his work. In 2015, the young Iraqi fled the civil war to Austria. Due to an injury, he had to give up his career as a professional swimmer and is now one of the up-and-coming designers in the fashion world in Austria. Samuel Mago reports.
