Poor prospects for the Turkish Matura
Around 42,000 students are currently completing their school careers with the Matura. Until now, the possibility of obtaining a high school diploma in Turkish was only available at the Vienna evening high school. This school experiment is now being ended after 20 years. Sabina Zwitter looked at what stands in the way of a comprehensive Turkish Matura.
Young linguistic talents at “Sag’s Multi”
This year, students once again took part in the “Sag’s Multi” speech competition on ORF in 39 different languages. The central theme this time is “Have a say, help shape”. Young people from all over Austria wrote speeches on topics such as identity, mental health, climate protection and escape. Adriana Jurić spoke to current and former participants about what “Say’s Multi” means to them.
Food for the soul
Who doesn’t know the special dishes that we associate with our own childhood? Especially on rainy Sundays or at times when family is missed more than usual, people often long for a meal that caresses the soul. Comfort food like this takes a variety of forms in different communities. Award-winning chef Paul Ivić knows how to conjure up a real feel-good meal from simple ingredients. And student Tracy-Cindy Agbogbe, social worker Filloreta Bennett and former nurse Vanessa Baumgärtel also know this. The three Viennese women with migration backgrounds revealed their recipes for their personal comfort food to Samuel Mago.
