“Heimat Fremde Heimat” about racism on the internet

On May 5th at 1:35 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) Stefan Ribitsch presents the ORF magazine “Heimat Fremde Heimat” on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at 1:35 p.m. on ORF 2 with the following contributions:

People with disabilities on the run

In order to obtain asylum in a safe country, people who have been expelled from their homeland endure immense hardships. However, there are often even greater hurdles for people with disabilities. Using the example of two deaf sisters from Ukraine, Samuel Mago shows how important support is during the escape and why the road to Austria remains difficult for refugees with disabilities.

Racism on the internet

Insults, threats and calls for violence flood the internet. The problem is not new, but it is growing. Every day people experience hate online, either as witnesses or as those affected. Minorities in particular are regularly exposed to these attacks. How do people who are affected by this racist hostility deal with it? And what measures do media companies like ORF take against hate speech on their own social media channels? Adriana Jurić asked.

World heritage and minorities

In 1972, almost all countries in the world agreed to place certain cultural assets under protection. Buildings and city centers, for example, but also intangible things such as dialects, dance and crafts. Now the cultural heritage list should reflect society as a whole more closely. This is what the newly formed Austrian UNESCO advisory board wants. He is therefore also calling for submissions for everything that is worthy of protection from the perspective of Austria’s minorities. Sabina Zwitter reports.
