Heat-free for everyone: Vienna Red Cross opens two cooling centers in Vienna

Vienna (OTS) Summer is already in full swing and with it the hot temperatures are setting in. That’s why the Vienna Red Cross is opening cooling centers again this year at two locations in Vienna. The first cooling center in the Millennium City opens on July 1st. It will be open from Monday to Friday between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. until the end of August. The second cooling center opens its doors from July 15th to August 2nd in the Shopping Center Nord during the same opening hours. These cooling centers offer a cool and relaxing oasis without pressure to consume for anyone who needs a break on hot summer days.

A tried and tested place for relaxation

As soon as the column on the thermometer climbs up, our cooling centers are well attended“, reports Alexander Gratz, head of the disaster relief service at the Vienna Red Cross. “That’s why we decided to open Cooling Centers again this year at two locations in Vienna. The cooling center is an air-conditioned room in which you can recover from heat stress. “Extreme heat means increased strain on the body. This is referred to as heat stress. For healthy adults this is usually unpleasant, but not a health problem. In extreme cases, this additional effort can be fatal for older people, children and chronically ill people. Scientifically, these cases are referred to as heat-associated excess mortality. This means: If you compare a fixed period of time (e.g. a week) once in heat and once in moderate temperatures, then significantly more people die in heat than in non-heat“, emphasizes Dr. Harald Hertz, chief physician of the Vienna Red Cross.

“Worth a visit”

„WIf you’re looking to cool down and relax a little, our cooling centers are definitely worth a visit“, says Gratz. Deck chairs invite you to relax and you are also provided with water. The long-standing partnership with Yakult enables tasty refreshment with a well-chilled Yakult Original or Yakult Plus. “We are looking forward to your visit“, emphasizes Gratz.
