Hattmannsdorfer swings environmentally political demolition bulb in Brussels
Vienna/Brussels (ots) –

Greenpeace criticizes the first Brussels appearance by the newly accepted Economics Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer. At the EU competition summit on Wednesday, he pleaded, among other things, for a further reduction in sustainability reporting, the suspension of the Green Claims directive and a hollowing out of the supply chain law. These measures not only have serious consequences for people and nature, but would also create uncertainties for companies and punish those who have already invested in sustainable business practices. Greenpeace warns of a massive step backwards for environmental and nature conservation through such an EU policy.

Ursula Bittner, spokeswoman for Greenpeace Austria
“Minister of Economics Hattmannsdorfer enters the European parquet and immediately swings an environmentally political demolition bulb. Under the pretext of competitiveness and reduction in bureaucracy, a frontal attack on the ecological and social achievements of the EU in recent years is launched. A sustainable economy is not an obstacle, but an opportunity – it ensures Europe’s future, creates jobs and strengthens competitiveness. Hattmannsdorfer’s backward -looking strategy, on the other hand, relies on dismantling instead of progress and deprives Austrian companies the urgently needed planning security. ”

Hattmannsdorfer apparently represents a policy that rewards those companies that have so far been opposed to their ecological responsibility – and torpedoed all those who have already faced the challenges of a sustainable economy.

“In order to be able to solve the climate and species crisis at all, our economy must become a future fit. This means that companies have to take responsibility for their actions. Politicians have to create corresponding legal framework that enables sustainable economy and create for all equal competitive conditions ”says Bittner.
