Munich (ots) – In three new episodes, the social report shows the lives of citizens’ benefit recipients from Weißenfels in Saxony-Anhalt. Once famous for its shoe production, unemployment, crime and social neglect now dominate the cityscape. One in four residents of Weißenfelser Neustadt lives on citizens’ money. The format accompanies the everyday life of the people in the district – with all its ups and downs. New episodes “Hartz, Red, Gold – Poverty Map Germany” from Weißenfels from March 26th every Tuesday at 8:15 p.m. on RTLZWEI.

In the late 1980s, Weißenfels established itself as a leading location for shoe production in the GDR. After reunification, industry collapsed and many citizens became unemployed. A problem that the city is still struggling with today. The Neustadt district in particular is characterized by poverty and crime. Almost one in four people there receives citizen’s benefit. Despite the difficult living conditions, the people in Weißenfels do not lose faith in their wishes and dreams.
49-year-old Anke lives in Weißenfelser Neustadt with her husband Frank and their sons Max and Fabian. The family depends on state transfer payments and money is tight every month. The two of them don’t want to accept this and are looking for a job. The 49-year-old wants to be a role model for her sons and apply to work as a cleaner. Family father Frank is also looking for a permanent job again after being unemployed for around 20 years.
35-year-old Heidi has already given birth to six children. She is now expecting her seventh child. Together with the child’s father Marcel, she has to fulfill the requirements imposed by the youth welfare office, because their two daughters are already in the care of the youth welfare office and are growing up with a foster family. Are Heidi and Marcel allowed to keep their newborn?
