In ZIB2 interview, minister engages in political child abandonment
Vienna (OTS) – The minister responsible for gas supply has been politically abandoning her children for weeks. In yesterday’s ZIB2 interview there was another attempt to shift responsibility to the energy suppliers, said City Councilor for Economic Affairs Peter Hanke in a reaction.
Specifically, the minister stated in the ZIB2 that “national utilities can stop buying Russian gas from tomorrow.” However, she should know that a large proportion of Austrian gas imports come via the main importer OMV. It would therefore be good if there was finally clarity about the specific structure of the long-term contracts – as has already been repeatedly announced.
But no one in Vienna is waiting for that anymore. “The city of Vienna is leading the way here. We focused on other sources at an early stage; last year, Wien Energie was able to diversify over 30 percent of its gas requirements for district heating to non-Russian sources
“, emphasizes Hanke and underlines: “We are working hard on further diversification.
“Time is of the essence – not least because of Ukraine’s announcement that it will no longer allow gas transit from the turn of the year.
