Hands away from the tip – let’s stay with the truth!
Vienna (OTS) –

Dear tourism representative: inside the Chamber of Commerce,

At the moment, attempts are made to instrumentalize the union and the employees of the tourism industry for a diversion maneuver in order to cover up that companies have systematically reported companies. The result: too few social security contributions and lower claims for employees – in the event of illness, unemployment or in old age. But: companies that do not adhere to existing statutory and collective agreements, should not get away without consequences. They consciously produce excitement. We create facts.

  • Fact 1: Tipped is tax -free by law. If it is still taxed, then only because companies themselves Measures set that enable this – for example by introducing blanket service surcharges. This is a Decision of the entrepreneurs: inside.

  • Fact 2: There are BusinessesThe one Tip not or not to the full extent: leave the inside: but keepto plug gaps in the system – or to enrich yourself.

  • Fact 3: Large groups of employees preserved in the industry No tip. Either because they do not use guests directly (UA canteens, large kitchens) or the companies (fast food chains). In general, tip payments are declining in total.

  • Fakt 4: Im Industry comparison Has tourism that lowest average income. Especially with low incomes Every contribution to the pension, unemployment and sick pay. These contributions are to afford from the employers. A non -employment is theft of the employees.

A systematic solution is also required for a systematic problem.

Our clear demands:

  • Protects the tip, unemployment benefit and the work of the employees: Inside – also from their own boss: inside! It must no longer be dependent on the “good will” of the entrepreneurs: inside, whether tips arrive where it belongs – with those who provide the service.

  • The employee belongs to the employee: inside. It is an appreciation of the guests – not an instrument for corporate financing.

  • Hard punishments for companies that have cheated. Companies that have survived to make correct contributions must pay them – at their expense – or expect punishments.

  • Fair wages instead of pity. If you want people to stay in the industry, you have to pay them properly and adhere to the existing rules of the game in the collective agreement. Tourism employees must not be dependent on tips. Especially not in an industry that is constantly screaming for new work and specialists.

  • Less show, more structure. We have to put an end to constant public outrage – this is the only way we make the industry sustainable.

With social partnership,

Roman Hebenstreit (Chairman Vida union)

Anna Daimler (Secretary General Union Vida)

Eva Eberhart (VIDA field chairman Tourismus)

Kathrin Schranz (VIDA specialist secretary Tourismus)
