Between the Viennese underworld and future lights
The 2025 program inspires the participants with a colorful variety of topics. With a tour offer that is as big than ever, the Viennese have the chance to discover their city from a new side.
“Vienna is one of the most livable cities in the world that is constantly changing so that we will continue to be climate in the future. Our urban planning does a whole work and also shows this to the Viennese in their tours. Climate matters and places, resource-friendly urban development, good public connection-the liveable Vienna of tomorrow is already a comprehensive planning. Chance to get a picture of it on site.
Insights into urban development
“Gemma Future” has been inviting you to take a look behind the scenes of urban planning since 2022. The guided walks enable the participants to experience urban development not only theoretically, but also on site – be it on construction sites, in redesigned streets or in protected green spaces. The tours of external guides and employees of the city who get their own projects in front of the curtain are managed by external guides and employees. The participants do not need prior knowledge. “Urban development is incredibly complex – this often gives the impression that only experts understand what a good city is needed here. But each of us has a very good feeling of what makes a life worth living. With Gemma Future, we, as a city, not only have the opportunity to explain the thoughts behind the planning and to refute one or the other planning myth. Clemens Horak, head of the Vienna Urban Development and Urban Planning.
2. Half of the Gemma-Zukunft tours with other highlights
Why are places and streets in Vienna made so climate and not otherwise? The tours in part 2 of the season revolve around these and similar questions. In the past legislative period, the city of Vienna ensured a record greening offensive with 344 out of the asphalt projects in which sealed, greened and cooled. 3,316 new trees were planted in the street. But why a tree cannot grow everywhere, what challenges there are and why a perennial bed is a climate field, two urban planners explain to the so -called “Walk of installation“. Apropost Climaelden: Diece seed his Favorite Super Grätzl to be found. During two walks in October, the developments and possibilities of redesign in densely populated residential areas are illustrated here. But the wanderlust is also breastfed with Gemma: under the Leadership by architectural journalist and author Wojciech Czaja Interested people are looking for the big world in Vienna – and learn a lot about architecture and the so -called “cityscape”.
Tour program on foot and by bike
The Gemma future tours not only promote awareness of urban planning and climate shape. The form of locomotion – the so -called active mobility – is also a declared goal of Viennese urban development. This includes not only going to foot, but also cycling. Around 11% of all paths are now covered by bike by the Viennese. One reason for this is also the expansion of the bike paths, which is in full swing. Around 24 kilometers of cycle paths are built in Vienna every year, more than ever. Almost 100 new kilometers have been implemented in the network of cycle paths since 2021. Of course, insights into the cycle path planning should not be missing in the GEMMA future program: on the bike tour “In the fast lane“Two urban cycle path planners present the new cycling highways – including test drive.
The grand finale with a 9-hour tour through all 23 districts

In addition to a sore muscles, the participants also expect one or the other goodie the following day.
