At the general meeting on November 26th, the VÖZ board elected a new chairman: Haimo Primas is now the new president of the VÖZ. Haimo Primas has been CEO of Holcim (Österreich) GmbH since October 1st and also leads Holcim Cement CE Holding GmbH. For him, the focus is on the roadmap of the Austrian cement industry as the most important instrument for a successful climate future: “As VÖZ, we will continue to drive forward the green transformation. I am convinced that we will succeed in this together. It is a particular honor and pleasure for me that the board has placed their trust in me and that I can now take over the chairmanship of the VÖZ board.”
The biggest challenges facing the cement industry include reducing CO2 emissions as well as the issue of storing and processing CO2. To this end, the framework conditions for domestic location policy must be significantly improved: compensation for indirect electricity costs as well as accelerated procedures for the expansion of renewable energy and modern network infrastructure for electricity, hydrogen and CO2. International networking and regular exchange with stakeholders and politicians are just as important for Haimo Primas as the research activities of the VÖZ and its member companies, the results of which demonstrate the great progress made by cement and concrete on the way to climate-friendly building materials. Primas also emphasizes the topic of circular economy as a competitive advantage of cement and concrete as well as the storage capacity of the solid building material concrete for the application of component activation.
The 53-year-old native of Graz studied business administration at the Karl Franzens University in Graz and has been working at Holcim for 22 years.
