Constantin Film releases HAGEN – IN THE VALLEY OF THE NIBELUNGS in German cinemas on October 17, 2024.
Directed by the renowned directing duo Cyrill Boss and Philipp Stennert give Gijs Naber as “Hagen von Tronje” and Jannis Niewöhner as “Siegfried von Xanten” an impressive performance as opposing antagonists on equal terms. Dominic Marcus Singer, Lilja van der Zwaag and Rosalind Mynster complete the main cast as “King Gunter”, the king’s daughter “Kriemhild” and Valkyrie “Brunhild” in the saga, whose underlying Nibelungenlied is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Go to content: The Burgundian armorer Hagen von Tronje (Gijs Naber) holds the crisis-ridden kingdom together with a sense of duty and iron toughness. In doing so, he suppresses his secret love for the king’s daughter Kriemhild (Lilja van der Zwaag) and represses his own dark past. When the famous dragon slayer Siegfried von Xanten (Jannis Niewöhner) appears in Worms and endangers the old structures with his unpredictability, Hagen increasingly becomes a tragic figure. The young King Gunter (Dominic Marcus Singer), who is still inexperienced due to the sudden death of his father, sees in Siegfried an opportunity to save the empire. He asks him for help in taking the dangerous Valkyrie Brunhild (Rosalinde Mynster) as his wife. When Kriemhild falls in love with Hagen’s adversary Siegfried, he has to choose between love and loyalty to the king. Hagen von Tronje will find out who he really is.
HAGEN – IN THE VALLEY OF THE NIBELUNGS is an in-house production by Constantin Film for comprehensive international cinema and television exploitation. The adaptation of the spectacular story will come to RTL+ as a series event in 2025. Fremantle takes over global distribution for films and series outside the DACH region.
The film is directed by Cyrill Boss and Philipp Stennert, who together with Doron Wisotzky also wrote the screenplay based on the novel by Wolfgang Hohlbein. The producers are Jan Ehlert, Christoph Müller and Christian Rohde, with Filip Hering co-producing from the Czech side. Executive producers are Martin Moszkowicz and Oliver Berben. Editorial responsibility for RTL is Thomas Disch and Nico Grein under the direction of Hauke Bartel, Head of Fiction RTL Germany.
