Greens/Stögmüller/Schöll at the start of Pride Month: United in Diversity

Greens: Queer visibility is essential for a diverse society

Vienna (OTS) “Pride Month means queer visibility and together as an LGBTIQ+ community we are once again setting a strong example for diversity and against discrimination this year. Especially in times like these, we have to hold on to this diversity – and live it together. United in Diversity means that we are only strong together and united. We will now show and celebrate this for a month,” says the Green Party’s LGBTIQ+ spokesman, David Stögmüller. “Worldwide we are seeing an increasing shift to the right, the tone of which is becoming more and more inhumane; Many in the community are directly affected by this, and trans people are particularly targeted in the discourse. We can not permit that. Combating queer hostility is a task for society as a whole that must be addressed on many levels. “That is why we continue to advocate for the ban on “conversion practices”, the protection of intersex children and young people from non-medically necessary treatments and for complete protection against discrimination for all people in Austria for non-discriminatory access to goods, services and housing,” says Stögmüller.

“Pride has always been political – “the first pride was a riot”. But it will be a little more political this year, because we are threatened with a shift to the right in the upcoming European elections on June 9th. In many places, our fundamental and human rights are once again up for debate. Orban, Meloni, Le Pen, but also the FPÖ are working to dismantle our long-standing successes of equal rights. That’s why it’s important that many queer people go to the European elections on the day after Pride, June 9th, and send a clear signal for queer equality. The Greens have chosen this year’s motto “United in Diversity” because we Greens are fighting for a Europe united in diversity,” continued Stögmüller.

“It is now all the more important to live this visibility everywhere. All trams throughout Vienna will again be flagged with rainbow flags. This is a strong, colorful symbol of queer diversity. As LGBTIQ+ spokesman for the Green Parliamentary Club, I support this campaign and have taken over the sponsorship of tram line 41,” says Stögmüller happily. “With the Pride Village from June 6th to 8th at Rathausplatz and the climax of the 28th Rainbow Parade on Saturday, June 8th, under the motto “Pride is a Demonstration”, we appear as a united queer community and demand more acceptance, Equality and being able to live a self-determined, non-discriminatory life,” concludes the Green Party’s LGBTIQ+ spokesman.

“The Greens Andersrum Vienna are again represented this year with a sustainable and colorful participation in the Rainbow Parade on Saturday, June 8th, and from June 6th to 8th in the Pride Village on Rathausplatz. With our motto this year “United in Diversity” we show that only together can we send a strong signal against hatred and agitation. That’s why I invite everyone to join us and not only celebrate with us, but also advocate for more diversity, more equality and more queerness,” adds the spokeswoman for the Greens Andersrum Vienna, Katharina Schöll.
