In June, a new pop-up cycle path will be built in the Westbahnhof section on the initiative of the Greens. “We have been calling for improvements for the belt cycle path for years – especially at the Westbahnhof there are many unnecessary crossings, narrow places and long waiting times for cyclists. Now there are finally initial improvements,” says Kilian Stark, mobility spokesman for the Green Vienna.
The bike path is built on the left lane on the inner belt. This alleviates a harassment around the Westbahnhof – a first step for a contemporary and climate -friendly development of the belt. “Now further steps have to follow: The city of Vienna has taken care of halving car traffic by 2030. This goal will not reach itself – we have to reorganize the traffic and give the climate -friendly mobility more space. We Greens have already presented a comprehensive plan for this – we are calling for a doubling of the trees, more space cyclists and for pedestrians: inside, lighter crossings and a lighter crossings along the whole. And in particular the 100,000 residents: inside the belt deserves a future -proof design, ”said Stark.
With “Gemma Gürtel 2030+”, the Greens Vienna presented an extensive image of the future for the belt last year, which does justice to the city’s self -contained climate goals.
