Green Vienna/Sequence: “City government leaves Simmering’s public use: inside”
Vienna (OTS) –

Line 71 is currently being renovated a central tram connection in Simmerings and one of the most important connections to the city center – but obviously no thought of a suitable replacement for the people in Simmering. “There are currently many desperate residents reporting: in the inside because no rail replacement traffic has been set up for the duration of the construction site. People feel abandoned by the city government,” said Heidi Sequence, mobility spokeswoman for the Viennese Greens.

Because while the blocked stations in the 3rd district are operated with a rail replacement traffic, no alternative has been set up for the four stops in Simmering, which are now not approached. “The trouble is understandable. What is possible in the third district also has to apply to the residents: inside of Simmering. We are calling for a reliable rail replacement traffic for the duration of the construction site,” said sequence.

Unanimous district application has been ignored so far

“Unfortunately, there is no sensible replacement traffic for many routes and often several hundred meters have to be covered. This may not be a big problem for boys, but it becomes a major hurdle for older and more frail people or families with small children – especially on the hot days in summer,” said sequence.

Already on June 25, the Simmerings district council made an attempt to improve the situation. “However, all Simmeringer factions have spoken out for a replacement bus. Unfortunately, this request has so far been ignored by the responsible city councilor Ulli Sima and the Viennese lines. However, the people in Simmering urgently need a real alternative,” concludes sequence.
