Green economy achieves majorities in the economic parliament

Unanimous resolution of a GW motion on non-wage labor costs and further successes – “Bring a breath of fresh air into the chamber”

Days like these show us that with our work, little by little, we are able to bring a breath of fresh air into the antiquated WKÖ institutions. Entrepreneurs need a strong and efficient representation of their interests that is not tied to old thinking but looks to the future

Vienna (OTS) At today’s economic parliament, the green economy celebrated several successes. The delegates unanimously approved an urgent proposal from the Green Economy, which calls for employers to reduce the burden of labor as a cost factor.

“After our corresponding demands fell on deaf ears last year, all political groups have now recognized the signs of the times. I am pleased that we were able to send a strong signal with a unanimous decision and hope that we can bring movement to the difficult collective bargaining negotiations,” said Sabine Jungwirth, federal spokeswoman for the Green Economy.

A joint resolution by the Green Economy, the SWV and the ÖVP business association was adopted by a majority. The document calls on the WKÖ to advocate for social partnership and to jointly develop solutions for major challenges such as globalization, digitalization, demographic change, energy transition, climate and environmental protection.

Successes for the labor market, fair supply chains, gender equality

The majority of delegates also approved further GW proposals. They supported the Green Economy’s demand to reform the Red-White-Red Card and to introduce the possibility for people to come to Austria temporarily to apply for open positions. “The labor market is tense: companies urgently need workers from abroad. We should open the doors to those who want to work here and relieve them of unnecessary bureaucracy,” said Jungwirth. “The bottom line is that the entire business location benefits from this.”

The ÖVP-Wirtschaftsbund followed the GW application to the Supply Chain Act with slight modifications: The WKÖ should expand the existing supplier checks and adapt them to the requirements of the Supply Chain Act. This service should be made available to Austrian entrepreneurs free of charge.

The GW initiative for more gender equality in the Chamber of Commerce was also accepted with slight changes.

Days like these show us that with our work, little by little, we are able to bring a breath of fresh air into the antiquated WKÖ institutions. Entrepreneurs need a strong and efficient representation of their interests that is not tied to old thinking but looks to the future“, emphasized Jungwirth.
