With the successful implementation of the student at Risk program, the grass in the Austrian university student was able to achieve a significant educational policy success and make an important contribution to strengthening human rights and democratic values.
“Implementation of the Students at Risk program means a big step for the broad accessibility of education and sets a clear sign of the protection of those students who are affected by war, persecution or political repression,” emphasizes Viktoria Kudrna, nationwide top candidate of the grass, with regard to the starting program. Endangered students who are refused to form the right to education in their country of origin should be supported with this program to continue their studies in Austria.
The grass has been committed to implementing a student at Risk program in Austria for several years. Under their participation in the Austrian university, the project, which was previously implemented in Norway and Germany, also came on Austrian soil in 2023. Both as chair of the Austrian university as well as in the functions held by the grass, fought tirelessly for the protection and admission of students in risk situations, because: “The refusal of access to universities is a repressive tool that effectively takes their right to education and thus represents a fire -threatening democratic name. is counteracted and our autonomy and security are guaranteed.
Through targeted scholarships, endangered students are to be given the opportunity to complete their studies in Austria. It is essential to enable support for all students in risk situations.
Franziska Knogler, a consultant for international matters, elaborates: “Students at Risk should help students ‘at Risk’ worldwide and give them a chance to continue their educational paths in Austria. In recent years, we have had to observe how catastrophic the humanitarian situation in countries like Iran and Afghanistan has deteriorated and systematically access to education in countries Belarus is therefore essential. However, not everything has been done with the financial support: so that students who come to Austria through the program are not on their own, additional offers and support options such as residence law support, language courses, and buddy programs are required – according to the grass.
The program also reacts to an intersectional crisis, says Viktoria Kudrna: “Education is a fundamental human right and forms the foundation of democratic societies. From an intersectional perspective, it is also crucial to emphasize that educational levels also have gender -specific effects. have an existential income, political decision -making and an autonomous life. “
