“Government has to prevent laboratory meat on the market!”
Vienna (OTS) –

“The black and red-pink government must prevent the placing of laboratory meat as long as there is no doubt that there are no health risks. In order to explore the long-term effects on human health well, years if not necessary,” said FPÖ agricultural spokesman NABG today. Peter Schmiedlechner.

At the moment, the health consequences of laboratory meat can only be speculated, since so far only a few people have consumed this product. “Serious assessment requires long -term studies under controlled conditions. Italy has therefore already decided to prohibit the production and sale of laboratory meat,” continued Schmiedlechner.

The FPÖ agricultural spokesman also criticized the inactivity of the ÖVP-led government: “Already over a year ago, Minister of Agriculture has announced inappropriately to the media to protect consumers and peasant families from laboratory meat. But nothing has happened to this day. The ÖVP once again proves to be a dental tiger and thus both the lip cones and thus the farmers reveals. “

Schmiedlechner also recalled that the FPÖ had already submitted applications several times – most recently at the last National Council meeting – in the parliament against laboratory meat, but which the ÖVP has always been postponed or rejected. “It is unacceptable that the ÖVP constantly pretends people to be against laboratory meat, but at the same time it prevents a ban in parliament.”

In addition to the health issue, Schmiedlechner warned of the economic consequences: “Laboratory meat would destroy Austria’s small -scale and regional food production. Instead of traditional agriculture, large laboratories would arise that operate a natural, industrial food production. No farmer could keep up with such development. In addition, no one can explain to me that it should be healthy to replace our food with this so -called ‘tumor meat’.”

The FPÖ therefore calls for an immediate moratorium for laboratory meat until the health of health is undoubtedly proven. “We are on the side of consumers and farmers and will continue to fight against this questionable development with all his might. Nobody can tell me that it should be healthy to replace our food with this ‘tumor meat’,” said Schmiedlechner.
