At today’s state parliament session, the FPÖ voted against the amendment to the government of the Carinthian Spatial Lords Act presented by the government, since the result of the referendum is not implemented. This is explained by the Carinthian FPÖ boss Klubobmann Erwin Angerer. “The government has no respect for the democratic decision of the Carinthian population! SPÖ, ÖVP and Team Carinthia refuse to implement the result of the referendum on the protection of the mountains and alpine pastures before the construction of further wind turbines. They rejected the protection of the subalpine zones from 1400 meters and the alpine pastures required by the FPÖ, ”said Angerer. Therefore, there was no agreement on how it is incorrectly presented by the government.
As Angerer emphasized in the state parliament, he was horrified by the first comments after the referendum on January 12th. “The government and the wind power lobby have tried to wipe away over 76,000 people who voted to protect the landscape and talk. For the FPÖ, the principle of ‘the right goes from the people’, but that has not yet arrived in the minds of the SPÖ and ÖVP politicians, ”Angerer criticized.
The government had realized that a legal regulation was needed, but then the SPÖ and ÖVP stopped. “The FPÖ has approved the construction block or the submission stop for further wind turbines. But at best, this is partial cleaning. The result of the referendum must be implemented! This means that there may be no further wind turbines on mountains and alpine pastures, ”said the FPÖ boss. “Our attitude is clear: there can only be a zoning for the 14 wind turbines that are already built and the other 32 that are in the process. There is legal certainty. But with these a maximum of 46 wind turbines must be over, that is the clear will of the citizens! “
Deputy club chairman Josef Ofner also criticized that the state government has not yet taken note of the referendum. “There is a democratic result that is to be respected! The SPÖ and ÖVP now have time to get to the view and to implement the result through the submission stop until February 2026, ”said Ofner. He referred to individual mayors of the ÖVP, such as the Mayor of Metnitz Peter Grabner, who accepted and explained the result of the referendum that he was wrong and will implement the decision of the citizens. “Even if it is not legally binding, politics must accept and implement the decision of the citizens in a democracy!”
