Google, AMS and City Councilor Hanke in a panel discussion on the topic of upskilling

Economic Report Vienna Special in the House of Music

Vienna (OTS) Vienna (OTS) – “Career through upskilling. Expanding skills as a success factor” was the theme of the current economic report Wien Spezial, which took place on June 10th in the Haus der Musik. City Councilor for Economic Affairs Peter Hanke discussed with Google Austria boss Maimuna Mosser and AMS board member Petra Draxl the importance of targeted further training measures in order to exploit the workforce potential, counteract the shortage of skilled workers and thus strengthen Austria as a business location. Moderator Rainer Nowak led the lively panel discussion, which will be broadcast from Friday, June 14, 2024, by the Vienna city broadcaster w24 and by R9, the association of Austrian regional broadcasters.

The top-class panel of experts discussed the crucial aspects of upskilling in front of over 100 guests at a time when lifelong learning and continuous expansion of skills are becoming increasingly important.

“Our city is growing and therefore needs more and more well-trained specialists. That’s why we increase the budget for the Vienna Employee Promotion Fund every year, which offers a variety of advice and support services on the subject of training and further education. This year alone, around 147 million euros are available for this. I would like to encourage the Viennese to benefit from these offers in the city in order to take a significant step forward in their professional life,” said City Councilor for Economic Affairs Peter Hanke.

He emphasized the diverse further training opportunities: “Upskilling as a collective term for training and further education, higher qualifications and the acquisition of new skills in a professional context is important for everyone. For example, for those who are still at the beginning of their professional career, but also for people who are already working and want to give their career a new direction through further training. We see great opportunities for advancement, especially in the areas of nursing, elementary education and IT. The waff therefore offers a very extensive range of funding and also has an excellent advisory team. Together with the Viennese, they develop individual solutions for their personal careers with a lot of commitment and experience.”

Also at AMS Austria The course has been set for individual and professional upskilling Board member Petra Draxl: “The AMS is the largest training agency in the country. We have programs for unemployed people as well as for people in employment who need further training to be able to position themselves well in their careers. We can also counteract the shortage of skilled workers with targeted upskilling offers. The most important prerequisite for these further training measures to be accepted is, first and foremost, good livelihood security, followed by creative and flexible learning conditions. We also need the support of companies for this.”

Google is one of these companies where further training is practiced and promoted accordingly: “In my opinion, lifelong learning is a privilege and not a punishment. And the topic of upskilling is also omnipresent at Google. With the diverse training offerings of our future workshop, we reach more than 25,000 people across Austria every year. And with our employees, we also look together at where they want to go and how they can get there. This is seen as valuable by most employees and binds them in the long term,” describes Maimuna Mosser, Country Director of Google Austriathe added value of a professional upskilling strategy in the company.

After the discussion, people were happy to take advantage of the opportunity for further exchange and networking. In the audience were, among others:

Volker Libovsky (Chief Technology & Information Officer Magenta), Manuela Lindlbauer (owner Lindlpower), Hans Mahr (Media manager), ORF presenter Eva Pölzl and Alfred Reinprecht (Management ACP TechRent), Oliver Stribl (Wien Holding), Ralph+Raphaela Vallon (Vallon Relations+ Coaching), Gerlinde Zehetner (GF Pensioners Association of Austria and SeniorsTravel Austria), Matthew Zelenka (Managing Director Wiener Stadthalle) uvm.
