Anyone who wants to use Good Friday as a personal holiday must announce this by the day after tomorrow, December 29th
AK President Andreas Stangl
Linz (OTS) – Since 2019, Good Friday has no longer been an official holiday for employees with Protestant, Methodist and Old Catholic religious affiliations. Since then, there has been the option of taking one personal holiday per year. The application for this must be submitted at least three months in advance. “Anyone who wants to use Good Friday as a personal holiday must announce this by the day after tomorrow, December 29th
“, says AK President Andreas Stangl.
In Austria, employees can choose their own day off once per vacation year, regardless of their religious affiliation. For this purpose, one day is then deducted from the existing vacation entitlement. The announcement of the personal holiday must be made at least three months in advance in writing, for example by registered letter or delivery confirmed by the employer. On ooe.arbeiterkammer.at There is a sample letter for this.
On a personal holiday, employees are entitled to one day of vacation – unilaterally and without the employer’s consent. However, this person can “request” the employees to work on that day. If they do this, they are entitled to pay for the hours worked and holiday pay. No vacation day will then be deducted from the existing vacation entitlement, but the right to designate a personal holiday is used up for this vacation year.
