Urgent need for action: Currently, around a third of potential skilled workers are being lost.
Vienna (OTS) – “An enormous lack of coordination and communication between the federal government, the states and the education providers means that the existing training places in the health and social professions are not fully taken up. In 2022, 13,936 training places were available, of which only 9,142 were used. It is expected that only 6,070 graduates will actually enter the profession. This not only represents an enormous waste of human resources, but also exacerbates the already critical shortage of skilled workers in the health and social sector,” warns Reinhard Waldhör, chairman of the GÖD health union.
“The introduction of a modular training system is urgently needed. Such a system would make it possible to make different training paths compatible with one another and thus ensure flexible and individually tailored training. This is a crucial step in successfully integrating more trainees into the healthcare sector and effectively counteracting the shortage of skilled workers. “We urgently need qualified personnel,” says Waldhör, calling for rapid action.
The GÖD health union appeals to all responsible authorities to initiate the necessary measures immediately and thus set the course for future-proof training in the health and social professions.
