On the occasion of the international day of the child on June 1st, the aid organization Concordia shows how with professional commitment and targeted individual care children from families in need and misery can break out of the vicious cycle of generation poverty and lead a self -determined life. With the specially developed model, Concordia offers solutions in the daily centers to improve the life of marginalized children and their families in the project countries Romania, Bulgaria, the Republic of Moldova and Kosovo in the long term.
For over 30 years, Concordia has been committed to helping children and adolescents who live in poverty and need to make a better life- a life in dignity, without exclusion and self-determined. In contrast to families who are suddenly facing a situational poverty through a stroke of fate such as illness, unemployment, unemployment or divorce, families who live in a generation of generation in constant poverty are caught in a vicious circle. The Concordia team goes where the need is greatest and enables an improvement in the quality of life of children and families with the care in the day centers.
Dr. Bernhard Drumel, Managing Director of Concordia, appeals to political decision -makers to work closely with civil society and to commit themselves to eliminate cross -generational poverty over Europe in the next decade: “We see the prevention of cross -generational poverty. It is important to look and become active in order to enable every child in Europe to live a livable life. ”
The Concordia impact model – Theory of Change
The focus of Concordia’s model is on childcare, joint interventions, education and vocational training, employment and social business and empowerment. These five long -term paths help to ensure that children and adolescents can lead a life free of injustice, poverty and discrimination. A very important part of this is the area of education, since good training offers the chance to break out of generation poverty.
Education as a game changer
In the Concordia day center in Ali Ibra in Kosovo, which was opened in 2024, the daily school attendance is a prerequisite for the further care of the children. In cooperation with the municipality, a school bus brings the children from the day center to school and back again. Without this infrastructure, these children would have no way of going to school regularly. Following daily school lessons, the children are supported in the house exercises in the concordia center if necessary. Overall reach 95 percent of the studentswho attend classes in the two day centers Ali Ibra and Prizren in Kosovo, their school leaving certificate or pass the respective class level. This means a pleasantly low demolition rate of the children who come from marginalized conditions.
Georgi – a self -determined life in Bulgaria
A good example of the sustainable and effective work of the Concordia team is the path of now 22-year-old Georgi, who witnessed the need and misery up close as a child. Georgi comes from a large family, he has eight brothers and four sisters. It was a daily struggle for survival to get the most necessary needs such as food and warm clothes as a child.
Georgi came to Concordia at the age of 7. Initially, his mother came to the day center to pick up the children and maintained a kind of relationship with them, but after a year and a half she decided to go her own way. From the time, Georgi was completely on his own. At Concordia, Georgi felt comfortable right from the start: “I quickly got used to the surroundings and the other children, it was easy for me,” says the sporty and football -loving young person. There was school lessons, help with the house exercises and to compensate for sports and other activities. Above all, sport offered him the opportunity to escape his problems and demonstrate his talent and dedication. Today he is a self -confident teenager who has goals and goes his own way.
