The Viennese architectural firm BEHF Architects was awarded the German Design Award 2024 in the “Excellent Architecture” category for the design of the HELIO Tower.
Vienna (OTS) – The renowned architectural firm BEHF Architects has created a striking high-rise for BUWOG in the new district “The Marks”. The HELIO Tower in Vienna’s 3rd district redefines the city’s skyline and sets standards for modern living and gentle mobility in metropolitan areas. Last Friday, the “HELIO Tower” was awarded the German Design Award 2024 in the “Excellent Architecture” category. The winners of the international competition were determined in a multi-stage judging process.
“The German Design Award is an important international recognition for the work of the architects – but above all for the client’s trust in quality.”
says Stephan Ferenczy, managing director of BEHF Architects.
Award-winning subsidized housing
The HELIO Tower is a high-rise residential building that combines functionality, aesthetics and affordability. 173 of the 401 apartments were built as part of the Vienna Housing Initiative. With this mix of apartments, the building was recently able to impress in the “The Best Residential Buildings” competition (Callwey) and was awarded in the “subsidized housing” category.
“The project embodies our vision of modern and future-oriented urban development. The necessary densification of rapidly growing centers like Vienna not only requires a discussion of residential towers and their external qualities. Rather, a sensible and sustainable definition of the base zones is crucial for implementation and assertion of community added value in our future urban districts”
says Ferenczy.
Andreas Holler, Managing Director of BUWOG Group GmbH adds: “The HELIO Tower is a specialty among Viennese residential towers, as there is hardly a high-rise building that combines such high qualities under one roof for all target groups. Together with BEHF, we are pleased about the award for this successful project, which, through the combination of privately financed condominiums and subsidized apartments for rent, ensures a good demographic mix of residents of all ages and in different family situations.”
