The first Donaufelder sports festival moves the neighborhood in Floridsdorf – a total of 19 neighborhood ideas are implemented in 5 Viennese neighborhoods
Vienna (OTS) – The Neighborhood Council chooses 19 diverse neighborhood ideas: This year’s “Neighborhood Treasure” from the Urban Renewal Area Management (GB*) has been awarded. With a total budget of 15,000 euros, 19 ideas in five Viennese neighborhoods are now being supported and will be implemented this year.
“At ‘Neighborhood Treasure’, local residents have a say in the design of their neighborhood. I am very pleased that numerous ideas for good neighborly cooperation were submitted again this year. Everyone can contribute to successful cooperation. The ‘neighbor treasure’, the budget for your idea and the GB* team support you! The Grätzlrat has made its choice and selected 19 great projects – from the sports festival in Donaufeld to the silent disco under the trees in Liesing. I look forward to implementing the diverse neighborhood activities and hope you enjoy it!” said Vice Mayor and Women and Housing Councilor Kathrin Gaál.
“The GB*Neighbor Treasure shows how effective local participation in the Grätzl can be when people come together to actively shape their surroundings. Great ideas for the neighborhood in Donaufeld have been introduced in Floridsdorf. The GB* supports the implementation of this. We look forward to sports, theater and more that the Grätzlrat has selected. The projects will provide impetus for good coexistence around the Donaufeld urban development area,” says Georg Papai, district leader in Floridsdorf.
With the neighborhood treasure, the neighborhood budget for neighborhood ideas from the Urban Renewal Area Management (GB*), 19 ideas for good neighborhoods are being implemented in five Viennese neighborhoods. The ideas selected jointly by the Grätzlrat include a sports festival and a puppet theater in Donaufeld, an inclusive snack and a “walk and talk” in Simmeringer Hyblerpark, a bicycle course, mini golf and a long table at Hernalser Dornerplatz, and in Donaustadt an exercise program at the bathing pond Hirschstetten and a flea market in Stadlau as well as a silent disco and a hands-on spectacle for the neighborhood in the In der Wiesen district of Liesing.
Neighborhood treasure Donaufeld: The first Donaufeld sports festival moves the neighborhood
The special thing about Neighborhood Treasure is that not only do the ideas come from the neighborhood itself, but the decision as to which projects will be supported with the Grätzl budget is also made jointly by the Grätzlrat. At the beginning of June, residents came together in five district councils (one per area) and chose the 19 ideas that will enrich and strengthen community life and the neighborhood as participatory activities and district projects.
12 creative neighborhood treasure ideas were also submitted in the Donaufeld urban development area in Floridsdorf, four of which convinced the district council. Among other things, Daniel Wieser and his team are looking forward to a neighborhood budget of 1,000 euros for the 1st Donaufelder Sports Festival, which is to be organized and held on September 13, 2024.
“With the Donaufelder Sports Festival, I hope to bring together enthusiastic athletes from the Donaufelder Grätzl. Support from the GB*Neighbor Treasure turns a small idea into a big celebration. Thank you for that!” says Daniel Wieser, who submitted the sporting idea to “Neighbouring Treasure”.
The program for the 1st Donaufelder Sports Festival includes tennis, table tennis, beach volleyball and indoor football, which can be played on site. Coaches and club players share their knowledge and play “Exhibitions”. There will also be a culinary and musical supporting program. Festival visitors can expect a day full of exercise, fun and good spirits – with the aim of bringing sporty people together in Donaufeld.
Katharina Fohringer from the GB*District Management Donaufeld team is enthusiastic about the ideas that were submitted to the neighboring treasure Donaufeld: “From the first Donaufeld sports festival to the puppet theater, exciting projects were submitted by committed residents. These impressively show that this neighborhood is a lively place full of creative potential.”
3,000 euros “neighbor treasure” per neighborhood: 19 ideas in 5 neighborhoods are implemented
Until May 31st, residents in five areas of Vienna had the opportunity to contribute their ideas for neighborhood activities: around Hyblerpark in Simmering, at Dornerplatz in Hernals, in Donaufeld in Floridsdorf, in Stadlau and Hirschstetten in Donaustadt and in the Liesinger district In the meadows. There was a neighborhood budget of 3,000 euros to be raised for each area for the implementation of neighborhood ideas. A total of 65 ideas were submitted, 36 met the criteria and made it to the vote. 19 ideas were jointly selected by residents in specially formed district councils and are now being implemented thanks to budget from the neighboring treasury.
Neighborhood Treasure initiatives strengthen the sense of community in Grätzl
The Urban Renewal Area Management (GB*) has been committed to good coexistence in the city for 50 years. With initiatives such as the “Neighbor Treasure”, which has been taking place since 2022, the community and cohesion in Vienna’s neighborhoods are being strengthened. People get to know each other through joint projects and activities and become active together in the neighborhood. At the Neighborhood darling The local residents have a say in the design of their neighborhood. Residents can submit ideas for good coexistence or register for the Grätzlrat and, as part of the resident jury, help decide which ideas will be supported and implemented with the Grätzl budget.

In Simmering, an inclusive, healthy snack is planned for the neighborhood. The topic of “easy language” is introduced to all participants through games and fun. - Community games night
Playing together brings people together! An interactive evening where neighbors from Simmering can meet and network. - “Walk and Talk”: Share your wealth of experience!
An event showcasing the benefits of walking and bringing people from the borough together. The focus is on the exchange of knowledge on multilingualism, cultural diversity and a sustainable lifestyle. - Neighborhood flea market
A flea market for young and old in Hyblerpark.
Neighboring treasure “Dornerplatz”, 1170 Vienna
- Bicibus bike course
The “Bicibus” initiative organizes a temporary bicycle training area at Dornerplatz. Elementary and middle school children, parents and grandparents as well as residents are welcome. - Grätzlfest for the neighborhood
A barrier-free Grätzlfest with flea and swap market at Dornerplatz. House entrances, garages, courtyards or gardens become marketplaces. Local initiatives and associations provide information. A stage and cultural program ensures good entertainment. - Long table at Dornerplatz
The neighborhood is invited to take a seat at a long table at Dornerplatz. The focus is on healthy eating. HLW17 students prepare meals from surplus food. With a children’s program about food, healthy soil and nature. - Hernals Golf Club at Dornerplatz
The Dornerplatz becomes a mini golf course on two game days! Curbs, tree slices, manhole covers and steps are marked and turned into mini golf courses. Balls, rackets, game plans and score cards are available to borrow free of charge on site.
Neighboring treasure “Donaufeld”, 1210 Vienna
- Donaufelder Sports Festival
Exercise and fun are on the program at the sports festival with music, food and sporting activities. Coaches and club players share their knowledge and play “Exhibitions”. With music and cuisine! Implementation: September 13, 2024, location: An der Schanze 7, 1210 Vienna
- “Puppenzauber” – puppet theater for old and young
Together they will build a mobile puppet theater for the neighborhood. The puppet theater will be used at festivals and can be borrowed. Voluntary performances are planned.
- Gardens despite the city
The gardeners of the Broßmannplatz neighborhood garden invite you to the garden festival – with a keynote speech on the topic of “Gardening in climate change” and a discussion on the city garden, garden review and buffet. - Neighborhood festival “Floridusgasse Settlement”
Neighbors invite you to the neighborhood festival in the Floridusgasse settlement. The settlement’s 10th anniversary is celebrated with a stage, games, children’s theater, buffet, etc.
Neighboring treasure “Stadlau and Hirschstetten”, 1220 Vienna
- Yoga and Pilates at the Hirschstetten bathing pond
At the Hirschstetten bathing pond there is a health-promoting exercise program for neighbors: five units of yoga or Pilates invite you to get to know each other and network. - flea market
A neighborhood flea market with a plant exchange is planned for Adelheid-Popp-Gasse in Stadlau. Everything here is about networking, exchanging and sharing and revitalizing public spaces. - Ssummer festival in Grätzl Berresgasse
A summer festival with stations for children will be held at the Com22 playground. We grill together at the barbecue area. Families from Grätzl Berresgasse are warmly invited to take part.
