fwp successfully advises on the EIA process for the “Oberes Hausfeld” urban development project

The Oberes Hausfeld project is one of the most difficult infrastructure projects in recent years due to the diverse problems arising from a wide range of legal topics. With the legal effect of the EIA approval notice, we have reached another important milestone in the long-term process

Vienna (OTS) Under the leadership of Michael Hecht and Josef Peer, Fellner Wratzfeld & Partner (fwp) advises the ARGE Oberes Hausfeld, consisting of 19 property developers, on the implementation of the approximately 23 hectare urban development project in Vienna’s Danube city. The project reaches another milestone with the legal effect of the UVP approval notice from the Vienna state government.

The “Oberes Hausfeld” project in Donaustadt, planned on the U2 and dedicated by the Vienna City Council in 2020, represents a key area in Vienna’s urban development. The project, which is expected to be completed by 2029, primarily aims to create affordable housing.

On the approximately 395,000 m2 gross above-ground floor area, a new district will be built with mainly affordable housing (housing subsidies/housing initiative) and a lively ground floor zone with partial retail, commercial and service uses. In addition, the approximately 23 hectare project area will include social infrastructure such as kindergartens and a school campus. The urban development project is one of the most complex and lengthy infrastructure projects in Vienna.

In addition, the planned project relies on efficient energy concepts. The majority of residential development is being built to low-energy house standards. In addition, more than half of the individual buildings will be equipped with extremely efficient energy systems (depth probes, photovoltaics, solar thermal energy and heat recovery systems). With the excellent connection to the public transport network (2 underground stations), the new urban development area meets the highest ecological environmental standards in a European comparison.

The Oberes Hausfeld project is one of the most difficult infrastructure projects in recent years due to the diverse problems arising from a wide range of legal topics. With the legal effect of the EIA approval notice, we have reached another important milestone in the long-term process“, says Michael Hecht, who, together with Josef Peer, is responsible for advising the ARGE Oberes Hausfeld, among other things, on the environmental impact assessment process.
