Further successes in repatriations: Three charter repatriations carried out in five days

14 men and six women deported – four criminals returned to Nigeria

Vienna (OTS) The Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum (BFA) continues to focus on deportations of people who are required to leave the country. Three charter repatriations with a total of 20 people have now been successfully carried out within five days. In addition to two Dublin transfers to Croatia and Bulgaria, Austria also took part in a FRONTEX charter operation to Nigeria organized by Germany.

Nigeria:

As part of the charter operation to Nigeria organized by Germany and coordinated by FRONTEX, a total of 36 people were handed over to the authorities in Lagos on January 23, 2024 – four of whom were Nigerian citizens from Austria. All four men were convicted of criminal offenses and drug-related offenses during their stay in Germany.

It was the first charter operation to Nigeria this year. Last year, Austria took part in a total of seven FRONTEX charter returns to Nigeria. Around 60 percent of the repatriated Nigerian nationals had at least one criminal conviction. In addition to the charter operations, individual repatriations to Nigeria are also carried out on a regular basis.

Dublin charter returns:

Croatia and Bulgaria are among the most important countries in the Dublin area for Austria. The 16 people repatriated included Syrian, Russian and Afghan nationals. In total, 13 Dublin charter returns were carried out to Bulgaria and eight to Croatia in 2023.
