Further ORF program changes in memory of Alfred Komarek: “Polt must cry” and “Flowers for Polt” on February 2nd on ORF III

At the 3sat Salzkammergut theme day on February 4th: both “Daniel Käfer” film adaptations

Vienna (OTS) In memory of Alfred Komarek, the ORF is changing its program once again and will show the first two feature films in the popular “Polt” series on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 9:05 p.m. on ORF III. With his maverick Weinviertler gendarme Simon Polt, the author has created a cult figure in German-language crime literature, which was brought to life by Julian Roman Pölsler’s ORF film adaptations with Erwin Steinhauer. Komarek’s novels about the cases of the grumpy investigator who is not averse to wine are, above all, ironic and loving studies of the Weinviertel’s milieu.

In part one, the production “Polt Must Cry,” which was created in 2000, gendarmerie inspector Simon Polt investigates an unusual death in Lower Austria’s Pulkautal, in idyllic cellar alleys, picturesque vineyards and romantic cellars. It is all the more unpleasant for the law enforcement officer when an unpleasant community citizen is found dead in his wine cellar deep under the press houses on Kellergasse and suspicion of murder arises. Polt, who has known almost everyone in the area personally for years, now has to investigate them.

In “Flowers for Polt” (10:40 p.m.), the second film adaptation from 2001, Inspector Simon Polt once again demonstrates his detective instinct in the romantic cellar alleys. There is a lot of activity in the vineyards when two tragic deaths occur. Polt cannot come to terms with the fact that these were accidents, and with typical Polt stubbornness he begins to uncover a well-kept secret, even if it means jeopardizing his newly budding love relationship.

“Daniel Käfer” twice on February 4th on 3sat

3sat also pays tribute to Alfred Komarek’s work and will show the two novel adaptations “Daniel Käfer – The Villas of Frau Hürsch” from 2004 and 2005 on Sunday, February 4th, as part of a theme day on the occasion of the European Capital of Culture project “Bad Ischl Salzkammgut 2024” (22.00 p.m.) and “Daniel Käfer – The Shadow Clock” (11:35 p.m.). Directed by Julian Pölsler, Peter Simonischek took on the title role of the former newspaper editor-in-chief who goes to the Salzkammergut – Alfred Komarek’s homeland – in search of identity and adventure.
