One can already speak of a small sensation. On October 19, 2024, two car icons that are rarely seen in Austria will be auctioned in Salzburg.
Since the film adaptation of the life of Carroll Shelby, who was portrayed by Matt Damon, this automotive visionary is no longer unknown in our part of the world. One of his legendary racing cars, a real “Shelby Cobra”, is rarely seen and is even more rare for it to be for sale in Europe. This unique opportunity will be available next Saturday at Humer & Granner’s life auction as part of the Classic Expo Salzburg. The vehicle can also be viewed there. However, you need the necessary change to purchase it; experts expect a selling price of between 1 and 1.2 million euros.
In addition to the American racing icon, the second highlight of the auction is a piece of Austrian automotive history that goes under the hammer. The impressive Austro Daimler 15/35 HP Phaeton from 1918 has an estimated value of around 300,000 euros and is said to have belonged to the opera singer Geraldine Farrar at the time.
In addition, among the 108 exhibits that go under the hammer at the annual meeting of the local and international classic car scene, you will find special examples such as rare tractors from the sports car manufacturer Lamborghini and Italophile hearts will beat faster at the sight of the “horses” from the Ferrari stable. The range spans an incredible 110 years of automotive history, starting with a Le Zèbre Type A and an Itala 20/30, each dating back to 1908.
The neighboring country of Bavaria is well represented with several BMW brand vehicles. There is, among other things, a beautiful, extremely rare BMW 327/28 sports coupe from 1939, with 86 units built.
Of course, there are also cult vehicles for smaller budgets with a Puch 500 D, a Steyr-Fiat Panda 4×4, a Golf GTI, a Goggomobil Coupé or a Citroën 2CV, as well as a total of 12 motorized two-wheelers.
