From the committed student to the first Caritas president in Austria

In the final episode of the 100 Years of Caritas Styria podcast “A good life for everyone”, the Styrian Caritas director and Austrian Caritas president Nora Tödtling-Musenbichler talks to Megaphon editor-in-chief Peter K. Wagner about her position as the first woman at the top of Caritas and why the Catholic aid organization still needs it after 100 years.

In the last episode, the acting director of Caritas Styria and President of Caritas Austria, Nora Tödtling-Musenbichler, reveals that she would prefer if an organization like Caritas didn’t need it at all. At the same time, one can be proud that Caritas has not only alleviated hardship but also empowered numerous people for more than a century.

Whether man or woman shouldn’t matter

She started a learning project in Knittelfeld as a 15-year-old student: In the conversation, Nora Tödtling-Musenbichler looks back on her personal beginnings in social engagement. She also talks about why it shouldn’t matter anymore whether a man or a woman holds a leadership position.

Caritas is clearly social-political

Tödtling-Musenbichler counters critical voices who believe that Caritas is not political enough by saying that the aid organization consciously does not act in a party-political manner, but does act in a socio-political manner. She advocates for disadvantaged people and groups and does a lot in the background to benefit people in need.
