Strasbourg (ots) – ARTE will broadcast the new production “Die Fledermaus” from the Bavarian State Opera live on December 31st at 10:40 p.m. on ARTE and online arte.tv/concert. The production is part of the digital European opera season ARTE Opera Season.
They are a dream team: general music director Vladimir Jurowski and director Barrie Kosky. The powerful artist duo is continuing their successful collaboration at the Komische Oper Berlin at the Bavarian State Opera – with a favorite of the golden operetta era: “Die Fledermaus” by Johann Strauss. The main roles in the Munich production are Diana Damrau as Rosalinde and Georg Nigl as Gabriel von Eisenstein.
At the center of the piece is an exuberant party at Prince Orlofsky’s, designed by Barrie Kosky as a big party in a Dionysian world of intoxication and forgetfulness. The Eisensteins’ cool and orderly world – the upper-class living room – is abandoned and all the characters, disguised and masked, immerse themselves in another sphere.
Following the stream, the production will remain in the replay for three months and with subtitles in six languages ARTE media library available.
“Die Fledermaus” is part of the digital European opera season ARTE Opera Season. ARTE has been offering this since 2018 in partnership with currently 23 renowned European opera houses and festivals. Viewers can look forward to new productions every month – freely available across Europe and subtitled in six languages.
