Fritz Verzetnitsch
The former president of the Austrian Trade Union Confederation (ÖGB) and SPÖ politician Fritz Verzetnitsch died today at the age of 79. Verzetntisch was at the head of the trade union federation for almost 20 years before the BAWAG affair abruptly ended his career. He sat in parliament for more than two decades, first in the Federal Council and later in the National Council for many years.
