FPÖ – Vilimsky: “Europe’s citizens do not need an ‘EU war minister’!” | Freedom Parliamentary Club

Libertarians clearly reject von der Leyen’s announcement of any further reduction in sovereignty that is incompatible with perpetual neutrality

Vienna (OTS) Today, the liberal head of delegation in the European Parliament and top candidate for the EU elections, Harald Vilimsky, clearly rejected the announcement by EU Commission President von der Leyen that she wanted to appoint an EU Commissioner for Defense. “Given the aggressive rhetoric of the EU elites, whose vocabulary does not even contain the terms ‘negotiations’ or ‘peace’, the term ‘EU Minister of War’ would be more appropriate for this new position that Ms von der Leyen wants to create – And Europe’s citizens don’t need one at all,” said Vilimsky.

In addition, an EU defense commissioner means a further erosion of the sovereignty of the member states, which is particularly incompatible with Austria’s perpetual neutrality: “As a perpetually neutral state, we must not allow the Brussels centralists to usurp the competence from us to completely impose their defense or rather ‘war policy’. But that is apparently the very clear intention behind these absurd plans. A political change is therefore needed at the EU level so that competences are given back from Brussels to the nation states and not the other way around. The development towards an EU central state, which is currently being pushed forward against the will of the citizens, must be stopped – only we, the Freedom Party, stand for that!”
