Long-time district party chairman of the FPÖ-Simmerung and Vienna municipal councilor died at the age of 85
Vienna (OTS) – It is with great sadness that we announce the death of former LAbg. Gerhard Zeihsel. Zeihsel died yesterday at the age of 85.
Born on December 21, 1939 in Vienna, Gerhard Zeihsel was a committed representative of the Sudeten German community. He spent his childhood both in Vienna and in Damitz, South Moravia, where his family settled as Austrians after the First World War.
Zeihsel was an important figure in the South Moravian Association and had the honor of serving as federal chairman of the Sudeten German Country Team in Austria (SLÖ). His contribution to promoting the culture and cohesion of the Sudeten German community was invaluable.
After his school education at the HLVA chemical school in Rosensteingasse, Zeihsel began a remarkable professional career as a detergent chemist at the Austrian Unilever GmbH, which he served faithfully for almost four decades.
Since 1955 he has been involved in the Sudeten German Youth in Austria and has also been politically committed to the interests of the Sudeten Germans.
From 1987 to 1996, Zeihsel worked as a local councilor and member of the state parliament for the city of Vienna. As a mandatary, he tirelessly advocated for the interests of his fellow citizens. For decades he was district party chairman of the FPÖ Simmerung and until his death also honorary chairman of Vienna’s 11th district.
“His death leaves a big gap in our community, and we will always remember Gerhard Zeihsel as a warm-hearted and committed person. Especially in politically turbulent times, he was a guarantee of stability and cohesion in our free family. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” said the state party chairman of the FPÖ Vienna, city councilor Dominik Nepp. (Ending)
