Corona justice for St. Pölten citizens too!
St.Pölten (OTS) – Dear Mayor Stadler,
I am turning to you again to address an urgent concern that particularly affects the citizens of St. Pölten. I noticed that under your leadership, St. Pölten is the only city in all of Lower Austria that opposes the repayment of Corona fines, which were classified as unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court.
In your letter dated February 15, 2024, you expressed that the city does not want to cover the costs of notifying those affected. This attitude contradicts fundamental principles of social justice. It is important to emphasize that the Constitutional Court declared several regulations unconstitutional. For this reason, it is only fair and right to refund citizens the fines paid under these invalid provisions. Any other approach would be arbitrary.
In order to enable the repayment of these unjustified penalties to the citizens of St. Pölten, on March 19, 2024 I attempted to cover the necessary postage costs for sending the relevant notices. Unfortunately, the amount of 100 euros, which according to calculations by the state of Lower Austria should be more than sufficient, was not accepted. This suggests that St. Pölten lacks not so much financial resources but rather the political will to resolve this matter.
I sincerely hope that together we can find a solution that brings justice and reparation to the citizens of St. Pölten.
